Short abstract: IBEFish takes the two needs of an enlarged fisheries management regime(the ecosystem-based approach and stakeholder participation) as astarting point and explores their theoretical and practicalimplications with a special focus on the role of participation in integrated management of the interaction between environment and fisheries. The project has two objectives:
  1. 1) to share the results and theoreticalunderstandings gained in past projects with regard to the ecosystemapproach in fisheries management, with a special focus on the role ofparticipation in integrated management of the interaction betweenenvironment and fisheries; and
  2. 2) to make practical recommendations forimproving fisheries management towards an ecosystem-based approachespecially emphasising the need for an enhanced knowledge-base, legitimacy and trust-building in the management.
