Short abstract: The objectives of PATH are to:
  1. 1) Facilitatethe exchange of information and experience in developing participatoryscience-based policy via interdisciplinary project meetings,international workshops and a well focused and interactive conferenceat the end of the project;
  2. 2) Examine and further developstate-of-the-art methods that bring together policy-makers, experts andcivil society in deliberating science-based issues through focuseddiscussion, and the writing of policy briefs and scientific papers;
  3. 3) Examinethe issues of scale and representation in participatory decision-makingand devise innovative solutions to addressing these challenges inscience-based deliberation through an international workshop and thewriting of policy briefs;
  4. 4) Illustrate the state-of-the-art anddevelop innovative strategies to improve science-based decision-makingby co-ordinating work and writing scientific papers in the fourillustrative case studies areas of GMOs in agriculture, watermanagement, biodiversity conservation, and nanotechnology.
