Summary

Matteo is the Early Stage Researcher based at UFZ Leipzig. His task centres on cost aspects of environmental governance schemes and their interaction with both the natural and the institutional environment. Matteo's interest lies in the distributional features of institutional settings regulating the access to natural resources. Matteo's field of academic expertise lies between economics, management, policy studies and sociology.

Matteo holds a MSc in Environment and Resource Management (2005, Vrije Universiteit amsterdam) and a graduate degree in Management (2004, Università degli Studi di Torino). He studied in Torino (Italy), Aachen (Germany) and Amsterdam (The Netherlands). His theses centred on consumer behaviour and environmental consciousness (graduate thesis, Torino) and on participation within NGO networks on energy issues (master thesis, VU amsterdam).

In the past, Matteo has gathered extensive NGO experience both with and within the Friends of the Earth network (young FoE Germany, FoE Europe, FoE International) working on a broad set of topics: environmental communication and awareness raising, GMO and EU agricultural policy, development and renewable energies.

Between 2005 and 2007, Matteo grew familiar with issues of Water Management and Water Governance while working as an assistant for Prof. Pier Vellinga, former dean of the Faculty of Earth and Life Sciences, VU amsterdam. Prof. Vellinga is member of Ufficio di Piano (UdP), a board of experts based in Venice, Italy. UdP provides cross-disciplinary advise to the Italian government on environmental issues in Venice Lagoon.

Matteo holds an Italian citizenship, has spent a considerable part of his youth abroad, is fluent in three languages (Italian, English and German) and is, in his free time, a dedicated jazz musician.
