Summary

Catrin is the Early Stage Researcher based at ECOMAN, Lisbon. Her research focuses on the role of participation in water governance. She will be investigating how the use of participatory processes affect water governance at different levels, what impacts this has on the interfaces between science and policy, and how these link to decision-making. Catrin's academic background is diverse, and she draws on a range of disciplines including history, political science, environmental economics, and policy studies.

Catrin holds an MSc in Environmental Technology: Economics and Policy (2007, Imperial College, University of London), an MA in Political Science (2005, Columbia University in the City of New York) and a BA in History (2002, Trinity College, Dublin University). She has studied in New York (United States of America), London (United Kingdom), and Dublin (Republic of Ireland). She acknowledges with gratitude the financial scholarships as well as the academic and emotional support she has received from Friends of the Earth/Martin Stanley, Rotary International, PEO and BUNAC, which have enabled her to pursue these studies. Her theses have centred on sustainable development (Imperial), and socio-ecological history (Columbia).

Between June 2005 and September 2006 Catrin worked at the WorldFish Center's Africa and West Asia regional office. The WorldFish Center is an international, non-profit, research organization that works to reduce poverty, hunger, and malnutrition in developing countries through the environmentally sound management of fisheries, and is a centre of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). Whilst there Catrin broadened her experience of both the theoretical background and practical aspects of natural resource management from a social science perspective. She worked as a research assistant on a number of different projects which included both ecological and socio-economic components (e.g. co-management of reservoir resources; health in fishing communities).

Catrin holds dual British and Irish citizenship, and has worked Africa, Europe and the Middle East. In her spare time she pursues a number of interests, including scuba diving, hiking, and cultural activities.
