Summary

Oliver is an Early Stage Researcher at the University of Aarhus, National Environmental Research Institute, Department of Policy Analysis. In his research he focuses on national policy styles in the EU and how they affect the implementation of the Water Framework Directive in different member states. A political scientist by training, Oliver's field of expertise lies in EU policy implementation and public participation in environmental governance, but he also has a background in green political thought and democratic theory.

Oliver holds a M.A. in Political Science (2004, University of Leipzig, Germany) and he also spent a year at Stockholm University, Sweden as an undergraduate exchange student. In his Master's thesis, Oliver analysed Turkey's implementation of minority rights in national politics as a precondition for EU accession. After graduation, Oliver gathered extensive expertise in political communication and worked for two years in public affairs consultancies with a focus on environmental issues. Furthermore, Oliver designed for more than seven years webpages in an Icelandic music context.

Before joining GoverNat, Oliver worked for 18 months as a junior researcher at the Institute of Environmental Systems Research, University of Osnabrück, Germany. He was involved in a project that tried to uncover the potential of environmental public participation to improve the quality of policy decisions and their implementation, based on a meta-analysis of case studies. Prior to and during his Ph.D. research Oliver was a visiting fellow at the School of Politics, International Relations and the Environment, Keele University, and the Centre of European Governance, University of Exeter.
