Summary

After concluding my undergraduate studies at the Department of Statistics in University of Piraeus in 1998, I joined an interdisciplinary postgraduate course on Environmental Management at the department of Civic Design in University of Liverpool. The Master's degree was obtained in 1999 and following I attended a short postgraduate course on "Ecosystems' Management and Sustainable Development" at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in Greece. However, as political and social sciences had grabbed my interest since the period I conducted field work for my master's thesis in the Hellenic Marine Park in Alonissos Island, I decided to begin my doctoral studies at Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences in November 2000, under the supervision of Prof. Getimis.

Since early 2000, I was also working at the Institute of Urban Environment and Human Resources (UEHR) as a research fellow in a number of EU funded projects on Participation, Sustainability Issues, Natural Resource Management and Governance. I was also a teaching assistant at Panteion University while I ran courses at various vocational training centres and colleges.

After submitting my thesis on "Policies of Sustainable Water Resource Management for Urban Uses" in 2006, I successfully applied for a 10-month "young academics and researchers" grant in the Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD). In October 2006 I moved in Berlin where I conducted research until July 2007 in IRS (Leipniz Institut für Regionalentwicklung und Strukturplanung) in Erkner on water management and infrastructure issues, under the supervision of Dr. Timothy Moss. During the last months of my stay there, I was awarded the PhD title from Panteion University with a grade of "excellence".

With the objective of continuing my work during the following years on cutting-edge issues on European environmental governance, I was led to the Helmhloz-Umweltforschungszentrum (UFZ) where I will be engaged until early 2010 in the Marie-Curie GoverNat project as an experienced (Post-doc) researcher focusing on water and biodiversity governance issues and especially on the translation of theory into practice in a Multi-level European Context and the gaps - or missing links - that stem from this process.

In my free time I most enjoy reading and travelling. Playing chess, walking, hiking or backpacking in nature always are mostly welcome. But going wild camping is by far the best background scenery for any leisure activity!
