The proposed work is structured as follows. In the preparation phase, the partners will have the GoverNat kick-off meeting (Jan 2007) and recruit the fellows. In April 2007, Ph.D. (or early-stage) fellows (joined by the Post-Docs , (- also called experienced fellows - in July) start their work by analysing governance of biodiversity and water, and formulate on this basis their own research programmes (WP 1). Multi-level activities in water and biodiversity governance are selected in a longer internship, followed by their analyses and assessments (WP 2). Participatory processes and analytical tools as well as selected cases will be evaluated in order to design potential improvements (WP 3). These improvements will be empirically tested, and the results will be evaluated (WP4). The research results will finally be synthesised and disseminated in WP5.
In each country, the transfer into practice is ensured through the participation of stakeholders as praxis affiliates. A special effort will be given to train early-stage fellows in dissemination and to disseminate results into CEE countries. This will enhance the chances that future projects undertaken by GoverNat alumni will help to bridge the gap between science and policy.
