The objective of this first work package is to synthesise disciplinary perspectives on water and biodiversity governance.
Its main tasks are
- to analyse the specific research questions linked to governance of natural resources and of water and biodiversity governance in particular. This means to assess the relevant institutions, their governance roles, as well as to translate the natural properties of water and biodiversity issues in appropriate social science language.
- to conduct in-depth interviews with scientists, stakeholders and decision makers involved in past cases.
- to compare specifics of water and biodiversity governance along a common analysis framework. This enables the researchers to compare their findings and to get a practical overview on different aspect of analysis of environmental governance.
- to identify the place for individual research programmes in this wider field. Differences to other natural resources and between old and new EU member states play a relevant role in this task.
Finally, the GoverNat research programme as well as the individual research programmes will be a main result of this first work package.
